Creative
Ministries: What is prayer shawl ministry about?
Sponsored by
the St. Louis Women's Society

Prayer shawls are like people and expressions of love. They come in
all shapes and sizes. Someone described prayer shawls as artifacts
of prayer . I think this is an accurate description. People making
prayer shawls also express prayer and love of God and Fellow man in
a multitude of ways. Most people knitting do not attend meetings. A
few knitters meet weekly in the morning, and some monthly at the
Mass for the sick, at Saint Louis parish for the blessing of our
work. As you see, there are many ways to participate in the ministry
of prayer shawls.
As
Sisters of Veronica, we gather at Saint Louis Church ( part of
Portland Peninsula cluster ) and invite you to join us. Our mission is
to express the Love of God as we have received it, to the sick, the
sad and the lonely. We take our shawls and baby hats for newborns to
the altar at the Mass for the sick every third Thursday evening at
6:30 PM. Father Paul Marquis blesses the shawls and takes them to
those most in need at Maine Medical Center , where he is a chaplain.
The need is often great. Many people are far from home in the
hospital, far from the comfort of their usual lives and sometimes away
from the Church of their faith formation.
Anyone can help with this ministry, not just knitters and crocheters,
donations of yarn (although please not cash) are always welcome,as
knitters use their own resources to purchase yarn. Come pray with us
in solidarity at the 6:30 third Thursday Mass. Pray a rosary or divine
Mercy chaplet at home for the growth and holiness of our work and
workers. If you are interested email Theresa at
twebber5@maine.rr.com or call 207- 655 6301.
May God bless and keep you in His Love.
|
Did you know that it is not necessary to attend meetings to make
prayer shawls for the sick and to have them blessed ? The Sisters
of Veronica would like you to know that you may make prayer shawls
at home , on your own time schedule. However we welcome all at
our meetings on the third Thursdays 5 PM at the parish hall of
Saint Louis church and every Tuesday morning 10 AM to noon at the
Lake Region Senior Center, at 40 Acorn Street in Gorham. See
photos on the Portland cluster webpages. Please call or email
for more information about how to participate, Theresa 655 6301

About the Knights of Columbus at St
Louis Polish Church
Sponsored by the
St. Louis
Knights
of Columbus The Knights of
Columbus is a men's organization created to unite men in their faith
and help others in times of need. Through their Good Neighbor
Project, one of the Knights programs distributes donated bread and
pastries from Panera Bread to those in need. Frank Piveronas
spearheads this project and has been the "bread man" dropping off
welcome goods to the Friendship House in South Portland every
Saturday. The Friendship House is well known to St Louis Parish from
its founding in 1985. When it was located on Brackett Street in
Portland, the Parish donated food from its annual dinner events.
Frank states, "We will continue to be a friend to Friendship House
helping with food and other wish list items".

Catholic Education and Faith
Promote
Catholic Education: Catholic
schools provide children a positive environment for learning. Growth
and education is enhanced through structure, affirmation,
consistency and recognition of self-worth. Each child develops
intellectually, morally, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and
physically. Catholic education encourages and broadens children’s
understanding of social justice and peace. Each day begins with
scripture and prayer, and Jesus is the role model of behavior.
Call the Pastoral Center for more information about Catholic
education in greater Portland.
Camp
Fatima for boys and Camp Bernadette for girls: The camps are
located in the Lakes Region of NH. They offer 2-week overnight
